Our Story

The circumstances were, by all accounts, quite ordinary — a bustling day at the Keeneland racecourse, the air thick with anticipation. Yet, as any observer of human nature might note, it is often in these unassuming moments that the most significant events are set in motion. Fate, that most elusive of conspirators, saw fit to weave two disparate threads together after being introduced by friends amidst the thundering hooves, joining our lives in a narrative that has led us here. A mansion that never felt imported or imposed — like it had simply risen out of the Georgia hills on its own.

Colonel Sam Tate built this house in 1926 from the pink marble of his own quarries — the same stone used in the Lincoln Memorial and the U.S. Supreme Court. Pink Georgia marble reads less as pink than as warm: nearly ivory in morning light, deepening to a burnished rose by afternoon.

The grounds spread across 27 acres framed by the Appalachian foothills, with English gardens terracing down from the house and a vine-draped conservatory connecting the private quarters to the formal rooms.

Tate House sits in the North Georgia mountains, about an hour north of Atlanta. The nearest airports are Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) and Chattanooga Metropolitan (CHA).

Shuttle service runs from both Canton hotels to Tate House on Friday evening and throughout the day Saturday. We strongly encourage guests not to drive after the celebration — the mountain roads are beautiful but winding.

Good to Know

The dress code is formal — floor-length gowns, elegant cocktail dresses, or suits and tuxedos. Parts of the celebration are outdoors on a lawn, so keep that in mind when choosing footwear.

Children under 13 are not permitted at the Saturday wedding venue, but they're warmly welcome at the Friday night welcome party. We hope that lets families celebrate with us while keeping the big day an elegant evening.

Yes. Shuttles run from both Canton hotels to Tate House on Friday evening and all day Saturday. Departure times will be shared closer to the date.

We're having an unplugged ceremony and kindly ask that phones and cameras be put away so everyone can be fully present. Our photographer will capture every moment. Feel free to take photos during cocktail hour and the reception.
